General Questions

What are the regulations for all users?
Here you can find all information and regulations for customers at Aranea + climbing and badminton centre -> User Regulations

Where can I park my car when I arrive?
Directly in front of our main entrance, along the Amsler-Laffon-Strasse, there is virtually always a possibility to park free of charge. You can reach the Amsler-Laffon-Strasse by turning from Ebnatstrasse into Seilerweg. If there are no free parking spaces, you can drive to the parking lot at the Brockenhaus of the Salvation Army. Entrance from Ebnatstrasse. Bring us the parking ticket and we will pay the parking fees.

Do I have to pay an entrance fee if I only want to watch my grandchild climbing and take some photos?
No. We have a rule that only those pay who actually go climbing or play badminton. It even goes so far that if you are only securing the rope (belaying) and not climbing yourself, you do not have to pay entry. But if you require a harness to belay, then of course you have to pay the hire fee.

The Aranea+ is not exempt from thieves. What should I do with my valuables?
Unfortunately valuables have been stolen here previously. In the changing rooms there are lockers with coin-operated locks. Always lock away your valuables or keep them in sight.

Questions about Climbing here

I’m coming to climb for the first time at Aranea+. What awaits me at the reception? Do I have to sign a form? I am under 16 years old?

Climbing customers are divided into three different categories of competency:

– With climbing experience -> Form “Safety Guidelines for New Customers”
– External group supervisors -> Form “Safety Guidelines for External Group Leaders”
– Without climbing experience

On your first entry into the climbing centre, customers with climbing experience are asked to read the appropriate form. With their signature they confirm that their level of competency is sufficient to be able to belay and climb safely, and that we have pointed out the rules. An external group supervisor signs a separate form and therewith takes responsibility for all persons assigned to him.

Youths under the age of 16 can only climb under adult supervision. However, the parents can give their consent with a written statement that their child may climb independently under 16 years of age.

Persons without climbing experience have the opportunity to book a course or to attend an instruction.

My climbing partner is much heavier than me. Can I belay him anyway?
Up to a weight difference of 10 kg you can belay your climbing partner well. If he is up to 20 kg heavier it already takes a lot of experience. Also your own body weight plays a role. It is important that you always stand close to the wall, but not directly under your climbing partner. With a weight difference of more than 10 kg, we recommend in all cases to apply the L-method. We are happy to inform you about this.

I am coming alone to climb at your centre, is it worth it?
Definitely. You can climb on the TOPPAS and TrueBlue circuit breakers and use the bouldering area. We will be happy to show you how to use the self-locking devices. Furthermore you have the possibility to participate in a regular training group.

Can we come climbing without any prior experience?
Yes! Climbing is possible here for everyone even without prior experience thanks to our self-belay machines TOPPAS and TrueBlue and the rope brake system TopStop. These make it easier for the beginner to get started and enable independent climbing after a short introduction. An instruction in climbing can also be carried out with a group.

I can climb and am capable of belaying. Can I also bring beginners with me to climb?
If you take friends with you to climb for the first time, your climbing experience and level of competency must be sufficient to instruct the group whilst climbing that is assigned to you. In such a case you accept the full responsibility for the safety and security of your group. A beginner must always be supervised when belaying. Consequently you can not climb yourself. If you have only the slightest doubt of being capable of this duty, then better book an instructor with us.
